November 22 Meeting

There is so much to be thankful for, like MOPS two weeks in a row! Can’t wait to see everyone, Tuesday, November 22nd, 9:30-11:30.  A handful reminders as we look forward to our meeting.

Everyone is encouraged to come early. We know this is so often easier said than done, but the earlier you arrive the more time you will have to check in your kids. Make sure to ask the greeters to help direct you of where to check in.

At our next MOPS meeting we will be making sandwiches for Minneapolis Recreation Development, Inc., which is headed up by Allan Law.  In addition, we will be having a warm blanket and clothing drive for his organization.  They are in need of blankets and adult gloves, scarves, and hats.  All items can be used (as long as they are clean), or of course, they can be purchased new as well.

We’re very excited to tell you that Allan Law is planning on joining us for the last half hour of our meeting!

Below is a link to a video about Allan Law and how he cares for the most vulnerable in our city as well as a link to their website.  I’d encourage you to watch the video and pray for him and our city.

Here's a little more information about Allan Law:
The organization is headed up by Allan Law, and their Mission is “Love One Another.”  Allan Law's entire life has been consumed passionately and unselfishly serving the poor, vulnerable, disadvantaged youth, and their families. Since 1967, he has volunteered more than 175,000 hours, and he has personally spent almost $500,000 serving…. with love and compassion and delivering a message of hope to those most in need. Allan was a teacher in the Inner City Minneapolis Public School System for 32 years.  He founded Minneapolis Recreation Development, Inc. in1967.  Allan is the sole delivery person and spends every night from 9pm to 10am driving the inner city streets of the Twin Cities in search of people to help. He works overnight because that’s when shelters are closed and homeless people living on the street are most vulnerable.  On any given night, there are an estimated 7,000 homeless people in the Twin Cities Metropolitan area, and over 2,200 of them are children under 17. The goal of MRD is to feed and provide emergency assistance to as many of them every day as possible.

Speaker

THE MARRIAGE IMPRINT: Messages Children Learn From Their Parents’ Marriage

We teach our children to read, to ride bikes, to pick up their rooms and mind their manners.  However the most important learning they will do in our homes has to do with learning how to love!  We, as parents, are our children’s blueprint for intimacy.  Based on what our children see in our marriage relationship, they draw conclusions and form permanent beliefs and expectations about marriage.  “Is marriage good?  Is it what I want someday for me?  Will I have a good one?”

What is your marriage teaching your children about love?  What does it say about respect, cooperation and trust?  Is your marriage preparing your children to be successful in their own love story later in life?

Join family advocate Rhonda Nordin as she steps through essential messages children learn from their parents’ marriage.  Based on recent research that shows children form opinions and expectations about marriage from a very early age, this session has the potential to not only influence how we parent, but how we as mothers and fathers, interact with each other.  From making marriage a priority, to building trust and negotiating differences, this session helps men and women improve their marriage and prepares them to lead their children into successful adult relationships.

For moreinformation about Rhonda click here.

March 22nd Meeting

A reminder that everyone is encourage to come early. Remember child care opens at 9:15 so if you check your kids in early you can get settled early too!

Speakers

"Road To Joy Ministries"
Cindy Cole Nelson and Kathe Matthews met in a singing group and soon realized it was no accident that they formed an immediate bond. They had quite a bit in common; both were mothers of teenagers, married over 20 years, worked as accountants and had passions for Bible study, speaking and creative writing. Cindy was at work on her first Christian music album and Kathe was compiling short stories and poetry for a book she would later publish. Unfortunately, they also discovered they shared a common struggle with worry and anxiety. Road to Joy Ministries was born when it became apparent that God brought them together, not only to support each other, but to send them out to help others. Today they speak at conferences, retreat programs, and other ministry events. With God leading the way, Cindy and Kathe hope to show others that traveling down His Road to Joy is the ride of a lifetime.

Fundraiser
Maple Grove MOPS will be hoping a fundraiser at Culvers on April 7th from 5-9PM. Sister tables to be assigned for a choose 2 hour slot. Sign up information coming soon!

Service Project
